Due to a recent collaboration with Mazda Motor Corp. and Sumitomo Corp., Central and Southern American drivers will be finding Mexican built Mazda2 and Mazda3 models at their local dealerships. Located in Salamanca in the state of Guanajuato, the joint expansion will facilitate the growth of Mazda south of the border.
Why Salamanca? Well, according to Mazda President and CEO Takashi Yamanouchi, "Since Mazda established its sales in Mexico six years ago, we have experience a remarkable acceptance from the people of Mexico...Last year, Mazda sold over 25,000 vehicles and captured over 3-percent market share."1 Partner Sumitomo echoes this sentiment, according to Executive VP Kazua Ohmori, "By integrating our strengths with those of our strategic partner, Mazda Motor Corp., and those of Mexico and Japan, I believe our joint venture will grow to become world class, and will help us to contribute to the development of both countries."2
Ohmori went on to say that the companies' and state's mutual respect for their people contribute to the shared desire to develop their communities.
Production is projected to begin at the beginning of 2014, and the plant will produce both engines and vehicles. A combined 140,000 units will come from the Salamanca facility annually.
While all new models produced in Mexico will stay in South and Central America, you will find a wide selection of expertly designed and produced new Mazda models here in the U.S. at Airport Twin City Mazda, located at 3076 Airport Highway Alcoa, TN 37701. We invite you to visit us during our regular business hours, or drop us a line via our website anytime.
