Mazda2 Begins Production in Vietnam

The MAZDA2 hatchback has been on sale for years in other countries, and the car has finally made it to North America, but that's not the only place this vehicle will take over.

On sale at Twin City Mazda - 3076 Airport Highway, Alcoa, TN, MAZDA2 will also be constructed in Vietnam. Stretching its sale to every part of the globe, Mazda will begin production of its compact in Vietnam this October, "as the Japanese car maker eyes the country's promising growth potential and as its domestic production base is pressured by the strong yen," according to sources.

The model will be produced at an assembly plant recently built and owned by Mazda's distributor (Vina Mazda Automobile Manufacturing Co.) in Quang Nam province, located in the center of the country. The goal is to produce 2,000 vehicles a year to be sold in this growing market.

In the US, MAZDA2 will be available with 1.3 and 1.5 liter gasoline engines, as well as diesel in Canada. "Bringing MAZDA2 to North America completes the bookends in our lineup," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda North America, in a press release.2
